DIY Sand Table

K, so I’m happy to say we made it to Grandma’s house!! (And, I got through that disastrous pile of laundry!) The kids are having a blast getting spoiled by their grandparents, and The Hubs and I are enjoying relaxing and spending time with our family.

There’s always something so magical about going to Grandma’s house. My MIL is so fun and comes up with really cool ideas to keep the kids entertained. I wanted to show you this awesome activity table she made for the boys…using a few things she had had on hand.

The DIY Sand Table

My MIL is so inventive! This fun activity table is outside on the back patio. She found some unused end tables in her garage to use as a table base. The large plastic container that holds the sand was a thrift store find. It’s original purpose was to go under a large dog crate. Luckily Grandma found it new in the box for only a couple of dollars. (Although not plastic, an inexpensive alternative can be found HERE.)

She used a piece of plastic she had on hand and laid it down for a barrier.

The pan is filled with sand Grandma bought from the hardware store. She added sea shells from her visits to our home in Florida. Plastic “treasures” from the dollar store…necklaces, animals, jewels, army guys, etc….are hidden in and around the sand for the kidlets to dig up. Shovels and pails are on hand for my little pirates. There’s even a treasure chest to collect valuables in.

Super easy, and SO MUCH FUN!!!

Our sweet friends came over to enjoy it with the boys!!

Pretty cool, huh? And I love that this table can be made to fit any size outdoor space you may have. A smaller table and pan would work great if you have a balcony or smaller back porch.

And clean up is a breeze, too. When the children are finished playing, the sand can easily get hosed off in a matter of seconds.

Did you ever think something so cool could be made out of a dog crate liner? Not me!

Thanks so much, Grandma, for the awesome sand table!!

The boys love it!

What fun things you like to do at Grandma’s house?
